Filip Kostic brak afgelopen seizoen definitief door bij FC Groningen. De Serviër werd zelfs verkozen tot Essent Speler van het Jaar 2013/2014. Het spel van de aanvaller leverde hem de nodige belangstelling op van clubs uit het buitenland. Kostic reageerde vrijdag na de training op de berichtgeving in verschillende media rondom zijn persoon.
“Ik sta de laatste tijd iedere dag in het nieuws,” vertelt Kostic na de vrijdagtraining in Haren. “Dat is nieuw voor me en af en toe best moeilijk, maar ik wil duidelijk maken dat, zolang er geen deal is tussen FC Groningen en een andere club, ik me voor honderd procent op FC Groningen zal concentreren. Elke speler heeft ambities en natuurlijk wil ik ook graag ooit in een betere competitie bij een nog grotere club spelen, maar zoals het nu is, ben ik hier en ben ik blij bij FC Groningen.”
“De situatie is zoals die is, maar de supporters hoeven niet bang te zijn dat ik met mijn hoofd niet bij FC Groningen ben. Ik kan me het wel voorstellen dat ze soms misschien hun bedenkingen hebben, omdat ik iedere dag in het nieuws kom, maar ik heb geen invloed op die berichtgeving. Zolang ik hier ben, zal ik me volledig inzetten voor nieuw succes met FC Groningen.”
Voor Kostic en zijn teamgenoten stond afgelopen week in het teken van door ontwikkelen en de voorbereiding op de laatste oefenwedstijd van de Trots van het Noorden tegen het Engelse Aston Villa. “We hebben een goed team, zijn niet veel spelers kwijtgeraakt en hebben enkele nieuwe aanwinsten erbij. Ik denk dat we een goede kans hebben om met dit team nieuwe successen te behalen. Ik ben klaar voor de wedstrijd tegen Aston Villa en klaar voor de start van de competitie tegen Go Ahead Eagles.”
