Johan Kappelhof is door de KNVB voor één officiële wedstrijd geschorst. De 23-jarige verdediger mist hierdoor vrijdagavond de thuiswedstrijd van FC Groningen tegen NAC Breda.
Kappelhof ontving afgelopen vrijdag in de competitiewedstrijd tegen PEC Zwolle van scheidsrechter Pol van Boekel zijn vijfde gele kaart van dit seizoen. Ook dit seizoen worden spelers na hun vijfde, zevende, negende en elfde gele kaart automatisch voor één duel geschorst. Op scherp Aan het slot van de competitie dreigt voor meer spelers een automatische schorsing. Rasmus Lindgren staat inclusief een gele kaart uit het seizoen 2012/2013 op vier boekingen. Ook Eric Botteghin, Tjaronn Chery, Hans Hateboer en Michael de Leeuw ontvingen tot nu toe vier officiële waarschuwingen. Maikel Kieftenbeld kreeg dit seizoen tot nu toe zes gele kaarten. Zij staan dus alle zes ‘op scherp’, zoals dat heet.
FC Groningen staat met nog drie competitieronden op het programma op de achtste plaats van de Eredivisie. Die plek geeft aan het einde van het seizoen recht op deelname aan de play-offs om een Europees ticket. Slot competitie Na de thuiswedstrijd tegen NAC Breda, komende vrijdag – aftrap in Euroborg om 20.00 uur – wachten nog krachtmetingen met Roda JC Kerkrade (uit) en in eigen huis met Heracles Almelo. De laatste speelronde in de Eredivisie wordt op zaterdag 3 mei afgewerkt. Alle wedstrijden beginnen die avond om 18.45 uur. In verband met diverse herdenkingen in het land op zondag 4 mei, worden er die dag in Nederland geen betaald voetbalwedstrijden gespeeld. In het Paasweekeinde is er geen Eredivisievoetbal en spelen PEC Zwolle en Ajax op zondag 20 april de KNVB-bekerfinale in Rotterdam.
