In een gezamenlijke actie stellen FC Groningen en Arriva gratis wedstrijdkaarten en vervoer ter beschikking aan cliënten van de voedselbank voor de bekerwedstrijd FC Groningen – NEC op donderdag 19 december.
Vorig jaar heeft FC Groningen in samenwerking met de gemeente Groningen een zelfde soort actie gehouden. Toen konden Stadjers gebruik maken van de mogelijkheid gratis een wedstrijd van FC Groningen in Euroborg te bezoeken. Dit jaar kiest FC Groningen in samenwerking met Arriva ervoor cliënten uit de provincie uit te nodigen bij een voetbalwedstrijd in Euroborg.
Op het traject Bad Nieuweschans – Groningen Europapark kom je door drie voedselbank-regio’s; Oldambt (met 875 cliënten), Menterwolde (600 cliënten) en Hoogezand (200 cliënten). Met alleen het verstrekken van gratis kaarten dreig je het doel te missen als deze mensen (financieel) niet in staat zijn naar Euroborg te komen. Daarom heeft Arriva aangeboden voor deze mensen het treinvervoer op het traject Bad Nieuweschans – Groningen Europapark rondom de wedstrijd op donderdag 19 december gratis aan te bieden.
Aangezien het duel met NEC een bekerwedstrijd betreft en er sprake is van recettedeling met de tegenstander, diende NEC met deze actie in stemmen. De club uit Nijmegen heeft hierop positief gereageerd en draagt derhalve bij aan deze actie voor de minder bedeelden in Groningen. De distributie van de kaarten wordt verzorgd door de voedselbanken in de betreffende regio’s.
FC Groningen wil met deze actie één van haar kernwaarden benadrukken, namelijk het zijn van een ‘volksclub’. De Trots van het Noorden wil zo toegankelijk mogelijk zijn voor alle lagen van de bevolking. Dat geldt ook voor het bezoeken van wedstrijden in Euroborg door supporters, die het financieel het zwaarst hebben.
Voor een steeds grotere groep mensen is het financieel onmogelijk om te voorzien in hun dagelijkse kosten voor levensonderhoud. Deze mensen zijn onder meer aangewezen op een voedselpakket van de voedselbank. Met de gratis kaarten en het vervoer naar Euroborg voor klanten van de voedselbank voor de wedstrijd van FC Groningen tegen NEC slaan club en Arriva de handen ineen om de financieel meest kwetsbare mensen van Groningen een leuk uitje te bezorgen in de dure decembermaand.
