Net als het eerste elftal van FC Groningen begint Jong FC Groningen zondagmiddag om 15.00 uur aan het nieuwe voetbalseizoen. Trainer Alfons Arts begint met een groep van twintig spelers op Sportpark de Koepel in Haren. Desevio Payne sluit een week later aan. Vrijdagochtend tekenden nieuwelingen Joël Amakodo en Robbert de Vos hun amateurovereenkomst.
Joël Amakodo is een 20-jarige verdediger die op 20 maart 1995 werd geboren in Groningen en zijn gehele jeugd speelde voor Achilles 1894 in Assen, eerst als spits maar vanaf de D-pupillen als middenvelder en later als verdediger. De eerstejaars student Rechtsgeleerdheid aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen speelt vooral centraal in de verdediging en speelde afgelopen seizoen ook geregeld als controlerende middenvelder.
Robbert de Vos is een 19-jarige middenvelder. Hij werd op 26 mei 1996 geboren in Spijkenisse en doorliep vanaf zijn vijfde de jeugdopleiding van zijn de plaatselijke voetbalvereniging tot en met de tweedejaars D-pupillen. In de zomer van 2009 maakte hij de overstap naar de jeugdopleiding van Feyenoord. Afgelopen seizoen speelde hij in de A1 van de Rotterdamse club. Hij speelde in totaal drie jeugdinterlands voor Oranje, waarvan één in Oranje onder-18. Selectie Jong FC Groningen 2015/2016 Doel: Stefan van der Lei, Jeroen Gies. Op zaterdag 18 juli wordt er gespeeld tegen Jong SC Cambuur en een dag later is de ploeg van trainer Arts te gast in Duitsland, bij Oberligaclub RWE Rheine. Op zaterdag 25 juli wordt er bij HHC Hardenberg gespeeld. Twee dagen later is Jong SC Heerenveen de tegenstander. Op zaterdag 1 augustus is een ploeg uit de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten te gast.
