Vanochtend stonden op Corpus den Hoorn de laatste trainingen voor de jeugdteams van FC Groningen/Cambuur op het programma.
Zowel spelers, staf als medewerkers kunnen nu gaan genieten van een welverdiende vakantie. Een lang seizoen zit erop, hoewel de voorbereidingen op het seizoen 2012/2013 ook al weer waren begonnen. Het afgelopen seizoen kon met tevredenheid worden afgesloten. De B-junioren werden kampioen en keerden na een jaar terug op het hoogste niveau. Het vlaggenschip kende een van de sterkste tweede seizoenshelften uit de historie en verlengde daardoor het verblijf in de Nike Eredivisie. De beide D-teams presteerden behoorlijk door in de competitie als runner-up te eindigen.
En het seizoen kreeg nog een mooi staartje. FC Groningen/Cambuur A1 won het Eurovoetbaltoernooi door in de finale Ajax Cape Town na strafschoppen te verslaan. FC Groningen/Cambuur D3 bereikte tenslotte de bekerfinale waarin het pas na twintig strafschoppen werd verslagen door Emmen D1. “Simply the Best” – de mooiste doelpunten uit het afgelopen seizoen samengevat in een ruim vier minuten durend filmpje. Op maandag 6 augustus begint het tweede deel van de voorbereiding op het nieuwe seizoen voor A1, B1 en B2. Een week later starten ook de overige jeugdteams. Er staan diverse activiteiten, toernooien en oefenwedstrijden op het programma. Zo is A1 van 9 tot en met 12 augustus op trainingskamp in Schiermonnikoog. Op 18 en 19 augustus neemt D1 traditiegetrouw deel aan de sterk bezette United Jeugd Cup in Nieuwegein.
De eerste belangrijke wedstrijd wordt op zaterdag 18 augustus gespeeld als FC Groningen/Cambuur A1 voor de beker in actie komt tegen PSV A1. Vier dagen later treffen beide teams elkaar opnieuw voor de seizoensouverture in de Nike Eredivisie in Eindhoven. Vervolgens zijn FC Den Bosch A1 (beker) en Ajax A1 (competitie) te gast op Corpus den Hoorn.
