Trainer Ron Jans staat met FC Groningen aan de vooravond van de vijfde opeenvolgende play-offs met FC Utrecht. De voorgaande vier keer werd telkens de finale bereikt. “Dat is ook deze keer weer ons doel.”
FC Groningen mag bovendien een ‘Angstgegner’ worden genoemd voor FC Utrecht, aangezien de ploeg driemaal achtereen door Groningen werd uitgeschakeld in de strijd om een Europa League-ticket. “In Utrecht lijkt zelfs niet FC Groningen maar mijn persoon een ‘Angstgegner’, heb ik begrepen,” zo begint Ron Jans. “Maar ik doe zelf echt geen vlieg kwaad.”
Zijn ploeg zal het donderdagavond in Galgenwaard waar moeten maken. “Vooraf denk ik dat de kansen ‘fifty-fifty’ zijn. Maar wij hebben natuurlijk wel de afgelopen drie seizoenen gewonnen van FC Utrecht. Wij zullen ons opnieuw moeten bewijzen en Utrecht achter de feiten aan laten lopen.”

De acht afwezigen zijn nog altijd: Morten Nordstrand (lies), Sepp De Roover (kruisband), Petter Andersson (kruisband), Ondrej Svejdik (kruisband), Jeffrey Rijsdijk (knie), Danny Holla (kuitbeen), Theo Lucius (kuitbeen) en Mike Zonneveld (achillespees).
