Met de lancering van het beleidsplan 2020-2025 ‘Samen naar de Grote Markt’ vaart FC Groningen een koers waarin de Trots van het Noorden het rotsvaste vertrouwen heeft dat iedereen kan groeien in Groningen. FC Groningen. Word Groter. Janka Stoker hoogleraar Leiderschap en Organisatieverandering verbonden aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen ziet voor FC Groningen een rol om zelf te groeien door de regio groter te maken. De wetenschapper vertelt in onderstaande video onder meer over een belangrijke inspiratiebron: Barack Obama.
De FC Groningen Business Club organiseerde op woensdag 23 september 2020 een inspiratiesessie met als hoofdgast Janka Stoker. Op dat moment waren de coronarichtlijnen soepeler dan vandaag de dag, waardoor vele tientallen sponsorrelaties in het Hitachi Capital Mobility Stadion genoten van een boeiende presentatie over leiderschap. Een goede leider zijn, is niet universeel samen te vatten en hangt af van de situatie. Effectief leiderschap vraagt om variatie en het toepassen van verschillende stijlen.
Eén van Stokers inspiratiebronnen is voormalig president van de Verenigde Staten Barack Obama. Niet eens als leider van één van de machtigste landen ter wereld, maar meer nog om wat de voormalig president met zijn leidinggevende kwaliteiten tegenwoordig doet, ver na zijn ambtstermijn. Als inspiratiebron voor vele jongeren brengt Obama mensen in beweging. Obama wordt groter door andere mensen groter te maken. Een rol die Stoker ook ziet weggelegd voor FC Groningen richting de achterban en het achterland van de club.
