Ajdin Hrustic heeft zijn overeenkomst met FC Groningen met twee seizoenen verlengd. De Australiër staat nu tot medio 2021 onder contract in het Hitachi Stadion.
Hrustic was maandagmiddag de Skylounge Groningen Airport Eelde samen met zijn zaakwaarnemer Djoko Maletic. Vier jaar geleden kwam hij vanuit Schalke 04 onder-19 naar de onder-19 van FC Groningen. Voor Hrustic is het na een amateurovereenkomst al zijn derde profcontract bij de Trots van het Noorden.
Openbreken
Ron Jans gaf een toelichting op de nieuwe driejarige verbintenis met de Australische middenvelder. “Ajdin heeft met name in de tweede helft van het afgelopen seizoen een zodanige ontwikkeling doorgemaakt dat we met hem in gesprek wilden over het openbreken van de overeenkomst die in 2019 afliep. De onderhandelingen met hem en zijn zaakwaarnemer Maletic zijn prettig verlopen.”
“Wij denken – en ik denk – dat Ajdin de ploeg beter kan laten voetballen in zijn rol iets meer van achteruit het middenveld,” vertelde de technisch manager van FC Groningen. “Maar het is allemaal nog pril. Als de ontwikkeling van Ajdin zo doorzet, dan zou dat geweldig zijn. We zijn blij dat hij nog drie jaar onder contract staat bij FC Groningen.”
Tweede seizoenshelft
Ajdin Hrustic, met shirtnummer 23, liep vervolgens zelf nog in vogelvlucht door de afgelopen vier seizoenen. “Ik ben in 2014 gekomen in onder-19 bij trainer Peter Hoekstra en dat was voor mij een kort seizoen omdat ik de laatste twee maanden miste door een blessure. Vervolgens heb ik twee seizoenen in de onder-23 gespeeld en dat was zeker niet de makkelijkste fase in mijn tijd bij de club, maar ik ben er doorheen gekomen.”
“Tegen AZ maakte in april 2017 mijn debuut in het eerste elftal onder trainer Ernest Faber en ook de periode daarna is het weer met ups en downs gegaan. Ik kreeg een rode kaart tegen Willem II en daarna ook nog een blessure. Maar afgelopen halfjaar heb ik een goede tweede seizoenshelft gespeeld en ik kijk heel erg uit naar de komende seizoenen hier bij FC Groningen,” aldus de eenmalig Australisch A-international.
