Het Finse FC KooTeePee heeft laten weten Robby Holder te willen contracteren. De 20-jarige transfervrije spits werkte begin april een vierdaagse stage af bij de club uit de stad Kotka, uitkomend op het op één na hoogste niveau in Finland. “Ik hoop deze week meer te horen, maar het ziet er goed uit.”
Jong FC Groningen-speler Holder – die na de winterstop uitkwam voor SC Veendam totdat de Veenkolonialen failliet gingen en in die periode twee keer scoorde als invaller – kijkt met een goed gevoel terug op zijn verblijf in Kotka. “FC KooTeePee is een fijne club en Kotka een leuke stad. De mensen zijn aardig, bescheiden haast. Ik ben er heel goed opgevangen en direct door ploeggenoten in de groep opgenomen.” Oefenwedstrijd Holder werkte een aantal trainingen af bij de Finse club en speelde een volledige oefenwedstrijd mee. “Dat was indoor. We verloren met 2-0. Het was wennen, want het veld was klein en heel smal. Maar het ging niet onaardig. Ze zoeken in hun spel snel de spits, dus je krijgt heel wat te doen als je je vrij loopt en je aanbiedt. Dat is lekker voetballen.”
Holder maakte een dusdanig goede indruk dat hij onlangs te horen kreeg dat FC KooTeePee hem wil vastleggen. “Deze week zou ik meer te horen krijgen, zo is me verteld. Ik wacht het af. Ja, ik zie het zeker zitten om naar Finland te gaan. Op dit moment zou ik niet weten wat een overgang nog in de weg zou moeten staan. De trainer heeft aangegeven met deze club binnen twee jaar te willen promoveren naar het hoogste niveau in Finland.” Sparv Uiteraard sprak Holder in de catacomben van Euroborg ook met Fins A-international en eerste selectiespeler van FC Groningen, Tim Sparv, over FC KooTeePee en Kotka. “Tim heeft me iets meer verteld over het Finse voetbal. Hij zei me dat FC KooTeePee een leuke club is en dat ik er voor moest gaan als ik de kans zou krijgen. Wat ik heel aardig van Tim vond, was dat hij een speler bij FC KooTeePee had gebeld en hem had gevraagd extra op me te letten. Ik zat daar immers toch in mijn eentje. Dat vind ik heel sociaal van Tim, dat hij daaraan denkt.”
