Hoofd-groundsman Anthony Stones van het beroemde Wembley Stadium uit Londen heeft FC Groningen donderdag 5 maart vereerd met een bezoek. Stones zorgt er voor dat Wembley altijd beschikt over één van de beste grasmatten in Engeland en dat is zeker niet vanzelfsprekend gezien het drukke programma van sportevenementen en popconcerten die aan de lopende band in Wembley worden georganiseerd.
Het bezoek van Anthony Stones is mede tot stand gekomen door Steve Noel en Peter Krabbendam, de leverancier van de Seegrowd-rigs (Lindegas-groeiunits). De Seegrowd-rigs worden ingezet om de groei van het gras te stimuleren met behulp van assimilatie-lampen, hogere omgevingstemperatuur en door het toevoegen van een overmaat van CO2 in de Seegrowd-rigs.
FC Groningen is zeven seizoenen geleden een samenwerkingsverband aangegaan met Lindegas/Seegrowd om de systemen verder uit te ontwikkelen. De afgelopen twee seizoenen heeft Steve Noel de Seegrowd-rigs prima aan de man kunnen brengen. Naast Wembley maken onder meer Manchester City, Chelsea, Tokyo National Stadium, Wolfsburg en Werder Bremen gebruik van deze systemen. Al deze clubs zijn inmiddels zeer enthousiast over de behaalde resultaten dankzij de Seegrowd-rigs.
Dank zij onze lange samenwerking met Seegrowd heeft Anthony Stones ons vereerd met een bezoek vooral om kennis te delen met de mensen binnen FC Groningen. Het bezoek was uiteraard meer dan waardevol voor onze eigen groundsman Jan van de Velden.
