Afgelopen zaterdag was het weer zover. Tijdens Walk for Life Groningen vond de vierde editie van de Dutch Open Mascotte Run plaats. Mascottes uit het hele land kwamen als trotse vertegenwoordiger van hun club of bedrijf naar Groningen om te strijden voor de felbegeerde wisselbeker. En onze eigen Groby behaalde een knappe 6e plaats!
Mascottes uit heel Nederland streden op een speciaal parcours om de eervolle titel: De snelste mascotte van Nederland. Voetbalclubs, bedrijven en instellingen laten op deze manier zien dat zij staan voor de belangrijke rol dat sport speelt bij het stimuleren van gezond gedrag en respect voor elkaar.
De wedstrijd was ingedeeld in 3 rondes met ieder 6 deelnemers. De eerste twee van elke ronde plaatste zich voor de finale. Met een keurige 2e plek in ronde 1 wist Groby zich te plaatsen voor de finale ronde. De overige finalisten waren nieuwkomers Onlineveilingmeester, Koala Ko en Budrake, routinier Storky en tweevoudig winnaar Sparta Piet.
In een spannende finale die flitsend van start ging kwam uiteindelijk Budrake van korfbalvereniging LDODK uit Gorredijk als eerste over de finish. Hij werd gevolgd door Onlineveilingmeester en Koala Ko die 2e en 3e werden. Tweevoudige kampioen Sparta Piet werd uiteindelijk vierde, gevolgd door Storky. Groby wist in de finale helaas niet verder te komen dan een 6e plek.
Toch gefeliciteerd met het behalen van de finale Groby. Komend jaar iets minder haring eten en iets meer trainen om de volgende keer de 1e plaats te behalen!
