De selectie van FC Groningen traint donderdagochtend niet op het TCN Trainingscomplex bij de Mediacentrale, maar in Haren. Op sportpark De Koepel houdt de technische staf onder leiding van hoofdtrainer Robert Maaskant fysieke testen.
Het complex in Haren is beter geschikt om de diverse testen af te nemen. Nadat de training van donderdag erop zit, hebben de meeste spelers een lang weekend vrij. Behalve de internationals Tim Sparv (Finland), Andraz Kirm (Slovenië), Género Zeefuik (Jong Oranje) en keeper Stefan van der Lei (Beloftenteam Oranje), en de spelers van Jong FC Groningen. De Beloften spelen vanavond (donderdag – red.) om 19.30 uur een oefenwedstrijd tegen CVVB in Bedum. De selectie van trainer Dick Lukkien wordt hierin aangevuld met Matias Jones en vier spelers uit RVO FC Groningen/Cambuur A1. Vitesse De selectie van Maaskant begint na het interlandweekeinde op maandagmiddag om 14.30 uur met de voorbereiding op de hervatting van de competitie. Op zondag 16 september komt Vitesse op bezoek in Groningen. De aftrap in Euroborg is 16.30 uur. De kaartverkoop voor dit interessante duel is in volle gang.
