FC Groningen viert woensdag 16 juni haar 50ste verjaardag. Een speciale dag waarop met trots wordt stilgestaan bij een bijzondere verjaardag. FC Groningen maakt in samenwerking met RTV Noord een live tv-uitzending met de titel ’50 jaar FC Groningen!’. In het programma – dat om 19.00 uur begint – wordt het standbeeld van clubicoon Martin Koeman onthuld. De feestelijke uitzending is live te volgen via het YouTube-kanaal van FC Groningen en op televisie via RTV Noord.
In de uitzending ’50 jaar FC Groningen!’ wordt er met speciale gasten in de studio van RTV Noord teruggekeken op de roemruchte historie van de club. De kijker wordt aan de hand van gasten met een belangrijke bijdrage in de historie van de club meegenomen in de tijd. Alle hoogtepunten in vijf decennia komen langs. Gasten als Henk Hagenauw, Jan van Dijk, Walter Waalderbos, Peter Eimers, Mark-Jan Fledderus en Roger Stinissen schuiven aan. Het duo Pé en Rinus laat een speciale versie van het nummer Z-side horen.
Onthulling standbeeld Woensdag 16 juni is de dag dat het standbeeld van Martin Koeman officieel wordt onthuld. Het standbeeld van het clubicoon is een cadeau van FC Groningen als dank aan alle FC-supporters voor de steun die de club altijd heeft ontvangen. De familie van wijlen Martin Koeman is ook aanwezig voor de onthulling van het standbeeld, dat voor het stadion van FC Groningen komt te staan. Zoons Erwin en Ronald Koeman zullen de officiële handeling verrichten. Het standbeeld van ‘meneer Koeman’ – zoals hij door velen in en om de club nog altijd respectvol wordt genoemd – komt naast die van zijn voormalig ploeggenoot Tonny van Leeuwen te staan.
Tijdens de tv-uitzending wordt live geschakeld tussen presentator Niiwino Geertsema en de diverse gasten aan tafel in de studio van RTV Noord en de verslaggever in het stadion, waar de familie Koeman het standbeeld van meneer Koeman zal onthullen. De gezamenlijke uitzending van FC Groningen met RTV Noord is woensdag 16 juni vanaf 19.00 uur onder meer te volgen via het YouTube-kanaal van FC Groningen en op het televisiekanaal van RTV Noord. De show zal ter ere van het 50-jarig bestaan precies vijftig minuten duren.
Passend alternatief FC Groningen heeft lang gekeken naar de mogelijkheid om een live-evenement voor supporters in het stadion te organiseren voor de viering van de 50ste verjaardag van de club, maar vanwege de nog altijd geldende coronaregels is het onmogelijk een evenement op te zetten waarbij de club veel supporters zou kunnen ontvangen. Met de live uitzending is een passend alternatief gevonden om samen met supporters stil te staan bij de bijzondere verjaardag van de club.
