Deze maand, september 2015, gaat FC Groningen starten met EuroFIT. Dit programma heeft tot doel een leefstijlprogramma te ontwikkelen, uit te voeren en te evalueren. De focus ligt hierbij op een gezonde leefstijl door meer te bewegen en gezonder te eten.
EuroFIT is gebaseerd op het succesvolle ‘Football Fans in Training’ (FFIT) programma van de Schotse Premier League en zal vanaf dit seizoen verder in Europa worden uitgerold. In elk land zijn zowel betaaldvoetbalclubs als universitaire medische centra aan het programma verbonden. Nederlandse clubs die participeren zijn PSV, Vitesse en ADO Den Haag en in de rest van Europa onder meer de Engelse clubs Arsenal, Everton, Manchester City, het Portugese Benfica en het Noorse Vålerenga IF.
EuroFIT is er voor mannelijke supporters van FC Groningen in de leeftijd van 30-65 jaar die niet voldoende bewegen en met een BMI hoger dan 27. De groep deelnemers komt wekelijks bijeen om samen te bewegen en te sporten. Het programma van EuroFIT heeft een duur van twaalf weken.
