FC Groningen is erin geslaagd Ruben Yttergard Jenssen te contracteren. De 28-jarige middenvelder komt transfervrij over van de Duitse club 1.FC Kaiserslautern. De Noors international tekende dinsdagmiddag bij zijn perspresentatie in Euroborg een overeenkomst voor drie jaar, tot medio 2019.
FC Groningen probeerde al meer dan een jaar om Ruben Yttergard Jenssen naar Groningen te halen. De Trots van het Noorden ziet in de Noor de ideale versterking voor het middenveld. Hij is 37-voudig Noors A-international en heeft 34 jeugdinterlands achter zijn naam staan. Yttergard Jenssen is een allround en zeer ervaren middenvelder. Hij speelde in zijn geboorteland voor Tromsö IL en daarna bij 1. FC Kaiserslautern in totaal 275 wedstrijden in het betaalde voetbal. International Yttergard Jenssen kwam met Tromsö IL tot 16 Europese wedstrijden. In de afgelopen drie seizoenen voetbalde de Noor in de Duitse 2. Bundesliga in totaal 81 officiële wedstrijden voor 1. FCK. Hij scoorde daarin 10 keer. De middenvelder maakte zijn debuut voor de nationale Noorse ploeg in de met 2-1 gewonnen oefeninterland tegen Montenegro, op 29 mei 2010 in het Ullevål Stadion van Oslo. Afgelopen zondag was Yttergard Jenssen – evenals FC-spits en landgenoot Alexander Sørloth – invaller bij het oefenduel van Noorwegen in Brussel tegen België. Duurzame relatie Manager technische zaken Peter Jeltema is er trots op dat de club erin is geslaagd Yttergard Jenssen te bewegen om voor FC Groningen te komen voetballen. “Als je het hebt over het onderhouden van een duurzame relatie in de voetballerij, dan is het traject rondom de komst van Yttergard Jenssen hiervan hét voorbeeld.
