FC Groningen is met vier spelers opnieuw hofleverancier in de voorselectie van Jong Oranje. Bondscoach Cor Pot selecteerde Leandro Bacuna, Marco Bizot, Virgil van Dijk en Género Zeefuik. Jong Oranje bereidt zich voor op het UEFA EK Onder-21, dat van 5 tot en met 18 juni wordt gehouden in Israël.
Voor de oefeninterlands van Jong Oranje tegen Israël en Noorwegen op 21 en 25 maart heeft KNVB-coach Pot een voorlopige selectie van 25 spelers geformeerd. Jong Oranje komt donderdag 21 maart in actie tegen EK-gastheer Israël en speelt die wedstrijd in het HaMoshava Stadium in Petach Tikva, hetzelfde stadion waar de ploeg in juni tijdens het EK twee groepswedstrijden zal afwerken, tegen Duitsland en Spanje. De aftrap op 21 maart is om 19.30 uur lokale tijd (18.30 uur Nederlandse tijd).
Maandag 25 maart krijgt Jong Oranje in Waalwijk Noorwegen op bezoek. Deze ontmoeting in het Mandemakers Stadion begint om 19.00 uur. Ook Noorwegen werkt toe naar de EK-eindronde waar het in poule A moet afrekenen met gastland Israël, Italië en Engeland. De Scandinaviërs plaatsten zich voor het EK door in de play-offs verrassend Frankrijk uit te schakelen. Voorbereiding Beide oefeninterlands van de ploeg van Pot dienen dus als voorbereiding op het UEFA EK Onder-21, dat in juni in Israël wordt gehouden. Jong Oranje is ingedeeld in groep B en treft achtereenvolgens Duitsland (6 juni, Petach Tikva), Rusland (9 juni, Jeruzalem) en Spanje (12 juni, Petach Tikva).
Vrijdag 15 maart maakt Pot de definitieve selectie voor de twee oefenduels bekend.
