Eind oktober gaat FC Groningen op bezoek op Sportpark Ervenbos bij Zaterdag Hoofdklasser Flevo Boys in Emmeloord in de derde ronde van het bekertoernooi. Dat wees de loting in Eindhoven donderdagavond uit.
FC Groningen bereikte de laatste-32 van het cuptoernooi door een degelijke 4-1 overwinning bij BVV Barendrecht. Flevo Boys rekende af met eersteklasser DOS’37: 1-0. In de eerste ronde werd Haaglandia met liefst 6-2 aan de kant gezet. Het betekent de derde thuiswedstrijd op rij voor de ploeg uit Emmeloord.
Flevo Boys werd in 1957 opgericht en is momenteel de koploper in de Zaterdag Hoofdklasse C. In 1982 was de club voor het eerst actief op het hoogste amateurniveau. Met uitzondering van 2004/2005 (eerste klasse) en 2010/2011 (Topklasse) speelde de club altijd in de Hoofdklasse.
Trainer van Flevo Boys is Wiljan Mossing Holsteyn. Aangezien de tegenstander een zaterdagclub is, zal het duel zeer waarschijnlijk op dinsdag 28 of woensdag 29 oktober worden vastgesteld. Voor FC Groningen is het de tweede keer dat het in Flevoland een wedstrijd speelt. In 1998 werd SV Urk er met 4-0 verslagen.
