In de voorlopige selectie van Jong Oranje is FC Groningen hofleverancier. Bondscoach Cor Pot riep 27 spelers op voor de oefeninterland tegen Kroatië op dinsdag 5 februari. Onder hen het FC-vijftal Leandro Bacuna, Marco Bizot, Virgil van Dijk, Johan Kappelhof en Género Zeefuik.
Jong Oranje opent het interlandjaar 2013 met een oefeninterland in het Kroatische Pula waar op 5 februari om 14.00 uur wordt afgetrapt in het Uljanik Stadium. Met deze interland werkt Jong Oranje toe naar het UEFA EK Onder-21 van 5 tot en met 18 juni in Israël. Jong Oranje is ingedeeld in groep B en treft achtereenvolgens Duitsland (6 juni, Petach Tikva), Rusland (9 juni, Jeruzalem) en Spanje (12 juni, Petach Tikva).
De definitieve selectie voor de ontmoeting met de Kroaten maakt Pot op vrijdag 1 februari bekend.
