FC Groningen maakt zich na de interlandperiode op voor een volgende cyclus wedstrijden in de Eredivisie. Die begint in speelronde 9 van de competitie voor de Trots van het Noorden zondagmiddag om 14.30 uur tegen Sparta Rotterdam. Volgens hoofdtrainer Danny Buijs gaan twee facetten mede bepalen over het resultaat: “Wij moeten goed verdedigen en goed aanvallen.”
Voor trainer Danny Buijs en de spelers Patrick Joosten en Laros Duarte wordt het een terugkeer op bekend terrein. Voor middenvelder Duarte wordt het de eerste keer dat hij het Kasteel van Spangen betreedt sinds hij afgelopen zomer de overstap maakte van Sparta naar FC Groningen.
FC Groningen moet het in Rotterdam stellen zonder de verdedigers Mike te Wierik en Radinio Balker. Een andere verdediger, Marin Sverko, is een twijfelgeval. Evenals spits Michael de Leeuw. “We willen resultaat halen en simpel gesteld moeten we hiervoor in ieder geval twee dingen goed doen: we moeten goed verdedigen én goed aanvallen,” stelt hoofdtrainer Buijs. “Dat hebben we bijvoorbeeld in de thuiswedstrijd tegen FC Twente lange tijd goed gedaan en daar waar we het moeilijker kregen, gingen we minder goed verdedigen en werden we zelf aan de bal ook slordiger.”
Campagne LHBTI+ acceptatie Komend weekend staan alle wedstrijden in de Eredivisie en de Keuken Kampioen Divisie in het teken van een bredere LHBTI+ acceptatie. Alle clubs maken zich sterk voor de boodschap dat iedereen welkom is, zichzelf moet kunnen zijn en dat niemand uitgesloten mag worden.
In het weekend van 15, 16 en 17 oktober – het weekend na International Coming Out Day – dragen alle clubs in de Eredivisie, Keuken Kampioen Divisie, Pure Energie Eredivisie Vrouwen, Eredivisie Zaalvoetbal mannen en vrouwen daarom OneLove aanvoerdersbanden, wapperen er speciale cornervlaggen en zijn er speciale speldjes en tenues zichtbaar.
