Een primeur in het Nederlandse voetbal! Twee betaald voetbal organisaties zetten zich gezamenlijk maatschappelijk in. Virgil van Dijk en de matchwinner van afgelopen vrijdag, Lorenzo Burnet, van FC Groningen zullen met Bas Dost en Arnold Kruiswijk van sc Heerenveen en de respectievelijke mascottes, Groby en Heero, het UMCG in Groningen bezoeken.
Aanstaande dinsdag 27 maart start om 17.00 uur in het UMCG te Groningen een ronde langs vier kinderafdelingen. In aanloop naar de noordelijke derby FC Groningen – sc Heerenveen, die op zaterdag 31 maart wordt gespeeld in Euroborg, zien beide clubs dit als een uitgelezen kans om de mooie kant van voetbal te belichten. Beide clubs zetten zich daarom graag in om de patiëntjes een onvergetelijke dag te bezorgen en zo hun verblijf in het ziekenhuis draaglijker te maken.
FC Groningen brengt al geregeld een bezoek aan het UMCG, maar vanuit de kinderafdeling kwam de opmerking bij de Friese club binnen dat ze het ook erg leuk zouden vinden als sc Heerenveen eens een bezoek zou brengen aan de Friese fans. Daarom is het idee ontstaan om gezamenlijk met spelers van beide Noordelijke clubs een bezoek te brengen. Tijdens het bezoek kunnen de jonge patiëntjes de vier spelers het hemd van het lijf vragen en met hen op de foto of een handtekening vragen. Ook ontvangen alle kinderen cadeautjes van beide clubs.
