FC Groningen en Make-A-Wish Nederland hebben hun bestaande partnerschap met een jaar verlengd. De stichting is al sinds september 2010 maatschappelijk partner van FC Groningen en daaraan wordt dus een vijfde jaar toegevoegd. Make-A-Wish Nederland vervult de liefste wens van kinderen tussen 3 en 18 jaar met een levensbedreigende ziekte.
FC Groningen en Make-A-Wish Nederland zijn in september 2010 een partnerschap met elkaar aangegaan. De stichting – toen nog opererend onder de naam Doe Een Wens Stichting Nederland – is nu bijna vier jaar lang maatschappelijk partner van FC Groningen. Gala Make-A-Wish Nederland is één van de goede doelen binnen de Stichting FC Groningen in de Maatschappij, de maatschappelijke tak van FC Groningen. Om zoveel mogelijk geld in te zamelen voor wensvervullingen worden allerlei initiatieven en projecten ontwikkeld. FC Groningen werkt mee aan een jaarlijks gala, benefietwedstrijd en andere activiteiten waarbij de opbrengst voor de stichting is bestemd.
Het vervullen van een liefste wens heeft op ieder kind een magisch effect, maar op kinderen met een levensbedreigende ziekte helemaal. Kinderen voor wie het leven voor een groot deel bestaat uit angst, zorgen en ziekenhuisbehandelingen. Make-A-Wish Nederland haalt deze kinderen uit de zorgen en laat ze door het vervullen van hun liefste wens weer kind zijn in plaats van patiënt. Dit geeft niet alleen deze kinderen, maar ook het hele gezin, kracht en energie voor hun toekomst. Vrijwilligers Aan Make-A-Wish Nederland zijn ongeveer 400 vrijwilligers verbonden, verspreid over heel Nederland. De stichting heeft een vrijwillig bestuur en een kleine vaste staf. Momenteel vervult Make-A-Wish Nederland meer dan 500 wensen per jaar.
