Op een internationaal onder-12 toernooi in Zoetermeer is het jongste jeugdteam op een verdienstelijke tweede plaats geeindigd.
De ploeg van trainer Bote Talsma startte overtuigend aan het toernooi en won dankzij treffers van Romano Postema met ruime cijfers van Club Brugge. Daarna volgde een gelijkspel tegen Hamburger SV. De Groningers bereikten vervolgens de halve eindstrijd dankzij overwinningen op FC Twente en Roda JC. In dat laatste duel benutte doelman Stein Barkhuis een strafschop.
Gastheer DSO was de tegenstander in de halvefinale. Romano Postema schoot de FC naar een zege en dus ook naar de finale. Daarin waren ‘The Rams’ uit Engeland de opponent. FC Groningen trok aan het kortste eind en zag Derby County met 2-0 zegevieren. De onder-14 ploeg van FC Groningen eindigde in Zoetermeer op de vijfde plaats. Een eerste plaats was er wel in Den Helder. SC Cambuur D1 werd winnaar na winst in de finale tegen Elinkwijk.
