In de laatste speelronde van de Eredivisie komend weekend wordt de nieuwe Eredivisie bal geïntroduceerd. Tijdens de wedstrijden wordt dan gespeeld met de officiële, nieuwe Eredivisie wedstrijdbal voor het seizoen 2009/2010.
De nieuwe Eredivisie bal is ontworpen door Vincent Sterenburg en Mariska Baar. Zij wonnen de ontwerpcompetitie waaraan heel Nederland mocht meedoen. Hun ontwerp inspireerde fabrikant Derbystar tijdens de ontwikkeling van de nieuwe Eredivisiebal, waarbij men dichtbij het oorspronkelijke en herkenbare design bleef maar een subtiele aanpassing doorvoerde. Sterenburg en Baar krijgen zondag tijdens AZ – Heerenveen de nieuwe bal uitgereikt uit de handen van Kees Kist.
Meer dan 300 voetbalfans met een creatief balgevoel stuurden hun ontwerp in en kregen zo de kans om zelf te bepalen hoe de bal er voor het volgende voetbalseizoen in de Eredivisie uit zou komen te zien. Voetbaldeskundigen als Marc Overmars, Henk Timmer, Paul Bosvelt en Hugo Borst bogen zich over die ontwerpen en zagen onder meer fraai Delfts blauw, een passend testbeeld, grasgroene kleuren en sobere ingetogenheid passeren.
Uiteindelijk bleven er twee winnende ontwerpen over. Een bal die uitblonk door het ontwerp – een Delftsblauwe Clublogo bal – won de publieksprijs, maar bleek niet geschikt om mee te voetballen op Eredivisie niveau. Uiteindelijk kwam de bal van Sterenburg en Baar het beste uit de uitgebreide test, en is dat de bal waar volgend seizoen mee zal worden gespeeld tijdens de wedstrijden in de Eredivisie.
