FC Groningen verneemt donderdagavond in de late avond welke club op 29, 30 of 31 oktober de tegenstander wordt in de volgende bekerronde. Daarbij kan het 20 verschillende profclubs of 11 verschillende amateurclubs treffen.
Mogelijke tegenstanders (zes Europese deelnemers kunnen niet tegen elkaar loten): Betaald voetbal clubs (20x): NEC, SC Cambuur, Go Ahead Eagles, ADO Den Haag, Heracles Almelo, Vitesse, NAC Breda, Roda JC, PSV, AZ, FC Utrecht, PEC Zwolle, Ajax, (sc Heerenveen of FC Twente), (Feyenoord of FC Dordrecht), MVV, Excelsior, VVV, FC Emmen en FC Eindhoven.
Amateurclubs (11x): Achilles ’29, Capelle, Excelsior ’31, Kozakken Boys, IJsselmeervogels, Noordwijk, (De Treffers of EVV), JVC Cuijk, Hoek, ASWH, en (Wilhelmina ’08 of SWZ Boso Sneek). Loting Vanavond, donderdag 26 september, rond de klok van 23.30 uur is loting voor de derde bekerronde live te volgen via Veronica. De loting vindt plaats in de Rotterdamse Kuip na afloop van de 32ste en laatste bekerwedstrijd uit de tweede ronde: Feyenoord – FC Dordrecht.
