FC Groningen verhuurt William Troost-Ekong komend seizoen opnieuw aan FC Dordrecht. De 20-jarige verdediger speelde de tweede competitiehelft van het afgelopen seizoen ook al op huurbasis aan de Krommedijk in Dordrecht.
Ekong maakt per direct de overstap naar de nieuwe Eredivisionist. FC Groningen heeft niet de mogelijkheid de verdediger tussentijds terug te halen naar Euroborg. Ekong is in het bezit van een na dit seizoen aflopend contract. De Trots van het Noorden heeft echter de optie de overeenkomst met de speler na dit seizoen met nog eens twee jaar te verlengen. Engeland Ekong kwam in de zomer van vorig jaar transfervrij over van Tottenham Hotspur, waar hij voor de reserves speelde. Al op 14-jarige leeftijd verhuisde de in Haarlem geboren verdediger naar Engeland, waar hij in eerste instantie voor Fulham ging spelen. Ekong kwam in zijn eerste seizoen in Euroborg tot twee officiële wedstrijden voor FC Groningen.
