Middenvelder Jorg Schreuders heeft zijn eerste contract bij FC Groningen getekend. De aanvoerder van FC Groningen onder-18 heeft een verbintenis gesigneerd tot medio 2024, met een optie voor nog een jaar. De 17-jarige Schreuders voorzag de overeenkomst – die vanaf 1 juli 2022 ingaat – van zijn handtekening in het bijzijn van familie in Euroborg.
Jorg Schreuders stroomde in het seizoen 2015/2016 in bij FC Groningen onder-12 en doorliep tot op heden alle opleidingsteams op Sportpark Corpus den Hoorn. De middenvelder begon met voetballen bij Be Quick 1887. De ontwikkeling van de Groninger viel de afgelopen seizoenen dusdanig op dat hij in 2019 binnen de Opleiding werd genomineerd voor de eretitel Best Western Strijder van het Jaar. De hoofdprijs won hij toen niet, maar dit seizoen heeft Schreuders wederom een nominatie te pakken.
Kwaliteiten Hoofd jeugdscouting Arno de Jong schetst de kwaliteiten van Schreuders. “Jorg is een speler met veel loopvermogen, duelkracht, voetballend vermogen en dominantie op het veld. In combinatie met zijn persoonlijkheid maakt dat van Jorg een complete middenvelder. Als aanvoerder van FC Groningen onder-18 laat hij tevens zien over leiderschapskwaliteiten te beschikken. Hij is een speler met het FC Groningen-DNA. Jorg is een jongen die zich heel bewust is van zijn taken, ontwikkelpunten en kwaliteiten. Hij weet heel goed wat te doen om beter te worden en werkt daar iedere dag keihard voor. Dit is zijn beloning. Nu is het zaak voor Jorg om nog verder te groeien. Een contract is mooi, maar moet niet het eindstation zijn. De volgende stap in het traject is doorontwikkelen naar FC Groningen onder-21 en daarna de overstap maken naar Euroborg. Uiteraard gaan wij hem samen met onze specialisten en faciliteiten op Corpus daarbij helpen.”
De Jong is trots op het feit dat een voetballer vanuit de regio via de Opleiding zijn eerste contract tekent bij de Trots van het Noorden. “Het tekenmoment in Euroborg kunnen wij zien als een compliment naar alle trainers en overige stafleden die de afgelopen seizoenen veel energie hebben gestoken in de ontwikkeling van Jorg en alle andere spelers binnen onze Opleiding. Een speler die zich van Onder-12 kan ontwikkelen tot contractspeler, daarop mag iedereen die betrokken is bij de Opleiding best trots zijn. Juist bij de spelers die uit ons eigen verzorgingsgebied komen en al zo lang binnen onze club spelen, zijn dit soort momenten extra speciaal.”
