Een deel van Euroborg zal vanaf zondag bij de Derby van het Noorden groen worden aangelicht. Samen met het bedrijf RIW Techniek en Energy Valley Topclub-partner Imtech zal tussen de hoofdentree van het stadion en het gebouw van het Alfa-college sfeerverlichting worden aangebracht. Tevens zullen er over een gedeelte van circa 2 x 15 meter groene LED-armaturen worden aangebracht aan de rand van het stadiondak.
Het betreft hier een proefopstelling om een aantal mogelijkheden uit te proberen en die als doel heeft op termijn structureel invulling te geven aan een langgekoesterde wens van club en supporters. De grauwe grijze buitenkant van Euroborg wordt niet als een visitekaartje beschouwd en is club en supporters al vanaf het begin een doorn in het oog. Plannen en ideeën om de gevel van Euroborg te voorzien van een (groen) kleurtje waren uit technische, praktische of financiële overwegingen vooralsnog niet haalbaar. Voorstellen Voor de competitiewedstrijd FC Groningen – sc Heerenveen zijn partijen met voorstellen gekomen. De constructie – mogelijk met andere accenten – zal ook in de week na de Derby van het Noorden nog in gebruik zijn, dus bij de inhaalwedstrijd tegen FC Twente (op woensdagavond) en de thuiswedstrijd van FC Groningen tegen Go Ahead Eagles op zondag 16 februari.
