De voetballers trainen tactisch, technisch en fysiek. Deze drie aspecten komen samen in het brein. Carl Blijd is bij de eerste selectie van FC Groningen betrokken als sportpsychiater. De medicus houdt zich bezig met de mentale gesteldheid van de selectiespelers van de Trots van het Noorden. Blijd zorgt door de optimale begeleiding op mentaal vlak dat de spelers van FC Groningen een stap extra kunnen zetten.
Een voetballer staat continu in de middelpunt van de belangstelling. Ze worden door supporters, media en de rest van de buitenwereld iedere week beoordeeld op hun presteren. Dat brengt druk met zich mee.
Die druk zorgt ervoor dat jonge voetballers snel volwassen moeten worden. Blijd begeleidt spelers in dit mentaal uitdagende proces. Samen met de performance-afdeling en medische staf brengt Blijd spelers naar een hoger level. Prestatiegericht, maar zeker ondersteunt hij de speler als persoon om beter te functioneren in deze voetbalwereld.
De wereld ligt voor hem open, door het verschil te maken als sportpsychiater helpt Blijd spelers mentale problemen tegen te gaan voor een gezonde carrière. In onderstaande video legt Blijd uit hoe FC Groningen met de juiste begeleiding van spelers een stap extra wil zetten.
