De wedstrijd die Jong FC Groningen aanstaande vrijdag, 20 juli, in Duitsland zou spelen tegen BV Cloppenburg, is afgelast.
De ploeg van trainer Dick Lukkien heeft slechts acht fitte spelers ter beschikking en heeft de Duitse tegenstander dinsdag geïnformeerd. Blessures in de B-kern zijn de voornaamste oorzaak van de afmelding. Bijkomende omstandigheden maken het onmogelijk een volwaardig team op de been te brengen. Zo is het eerste elftal van FC Groningen zoals bekend afgereisd naar Zuid-Korea en heeft de A1 vakantie. Samenwerkingsclub SC Veendam heeft momenteel ook nog een vrij krappe selectie en de andere partner SC Cambuur heeft aankomend weekend een trainingskamp.
Dus zat er voor trainer Dick Lukkien niets anders op dan de tweede oefenwedstrijd af te blazen. Afgelopen vrijdag werd met 1-0 verloren bij Be Quick 1887. Op vrijdag 27 juli wordt in Borgercompagnie geoefend tegen SC Veendam (19.00 uur). Op maandag 6 augustus is de laatste oefenwedstrijd, uit tegen WKE in Emmen (19.00 uur). Op maandag 13 augustus (18.30 uur) start de competitie voor Jong FC Groningen met een thuiswedstrijd tegen Jong FC Volendam.
