Dromen van Euroborg is de meerdelige serie over FC Groningen onder-18. Het team onder leiding van trainer/coach/manager Paul Matthijs heeft ambitieuze doelen gesteld en ook individueel zijn de spelers zich bewust dat Euroborg alleen lonkt als de lat hoog wordt gelegd en er iedere dag keihard wordt gewerkt. De druk neemt toe, ook voor Thom van Bergen. De spits weet dat talent alleen is niet meer voldoende is. Leven als een topsporter is vereist om de droom een kans te geven. In deze aflevering wordt Van Bergen op de voet gevolgd tijdens de voorbereiding en de topper tegen NAC Breda.
Thom van Bergen – 17 jaar – begon met voetballen op de velden van VV Gorecht. De speler van FC Groningen onder-18 komt graag terug op Sportpark de Koepel, waar hij ook nog een jeugdteam training geeft. Dagelijks geeft de spits een paar kilometer verderop bij de FC Groningen Opleiding het maximale op Sportpark Corpus den Hoorn om zijn droom te verwezenlijken. Presteren wordt steeds belangrijker, in de topwedstrijd tegen NAC Breda is het erop of eronder.
Van Bergen realiseert zich dat naast presteren op het veld, het leven als topsporter buiten de lijnen belangrijk is om als voetballer het maximale te kunnen geven. De intrinsieke motivatie om alles eruit te halen is bij de spits aanwezig. Voetballen is waar Van Bergen het meeste plezier uithaalt en hij weet dat het vanaf deze leeftijd heel snel zou kunnen gaan.
