De Regionale Voetbalopleiding (RVO) FC Groningen/Cambuur is met drie spelers vertegenwoordigd in de selectie van het Nederlands elftal onder 17 jaar. De groep van KNVB-coach Albert Stuivenberg werkt volgende week een tweedaagse oefenstage af in Delden.
De B-junioren Willem Gootjes, Kasper Oldenburger en Richairo Zivkovic worden volgende week maandag in Delden verwacht. Daar speelt de groep van 31 spelers, onder wie vier keepers, de volgende dag (dinsdag 15 januari – red.) een onderlinge oefenwedstrijd. Verdediger Roland Baas staat op de standby-lijst van Oranje onder-17. Gootjes is een middenvelder, Oldenburger en Zivkovic zijn aanvallers. Trainingskamp Richairo Zivkovic verblijft momenteel met de eerste selectie van FC Groningen in het trainingskamp in het Spaanse Oliva. Het jonge talent van de Trots van het Noorden maakte voor de winterstop zijn debuut in het elftal van hoofdtrainer Robert Maaskant. De pas 16-jarige spits kwam al in drie Eredivisieduels en in de bekerwedstrijd tegen Ajax in actie, steeds als invaller. Zivkovic keert – net als de rest van de ploeg – zaterdag terug uit Oliva. Nederlands elftal onder 16 jaar Verdediger Keziah Veendorp en middenvelder Rutger Etten maken deel uit van het Nederlands elftal onder 16 jaar. De selectie van KNVB-coach Ruud Dokter komt volgende week maandag en dinsdag voor een tweedaagse oefenstage bijeen in Doorwerth. Niels Ridderstap en Juninho Bacuna, het jongere broertje van eerste selectiespeler Leandro Bacuna, staan op de standby-lijst van Oranje onder-16.
