Wieger Sietsma vertrekt aan het einde van dit seizoen bij FC Groningen. De 19-jarige doelman en de Trots van het Noorden konden het niet eens worden over een contract in Euroborg.
Sietsma kwam in de zomer van 2006 van de amateurclub GRC Groningen naar de jeugd van FC Groningen en doorliep in acht seizoenen alle jeugdteams van de opleiding. In de zomer van 2014 maakte hij de overstap naar Jong FC Groningen, waarin hij op amateurbasis uitkwam. Sietsma is bezig aan zijn negende seizoen in het groen-wit. Duidelijk Manager technische zaken Peter Jeltema vindt het jammer dat Sietsma de club gaat verlaten, maar is ook duidelijk in zijn commentaar. “Wij hadden Wieger graag onder contract genomen bij FC Groningen en daarover hebben we ook meerdere gesprekken gevoerd, maar aan alles zit een grens. We konden het niet eens worden over de voorwaarden en dan moet je op een bepaald moment een beslissing nemen richting de toekomst. Die ligt in het geval van Wieger dus niet in Euroborg.”
Inmiddels heeft Sietsma wel overeenstemming weten te bereiken met sc Heerenveen over een contract dat komende zomer ingaat.
