FC Groningen brengt aankomende zondag samen met de supporters een eerbetoon aan Arjen Robben. De beste voetballer die ooit is opgeleid door FC Groningen stopte afgelopen zomer met voetballen nadat hij een jaar eerder even spectaculair als onverwacht zijn comeback als voetballer bij FC Groningen aankondigde. FC Groningen volgde de sterspeler een seizoen lang achter de schermen en maakte de documentaire: ‘De route van Robben’. De documentaire was al te zien op ESPN en is vanaf heden ook terug te kijken via YouTube.
In de documentaire blikt Robben uitgebreid terug op zijn keuze een comeback te maken bij FC Groningen. Uit clubliefde, om zijn FC te helpen in de zware coronacrisis. Het geeft een kijkje achter de schermen op de strijd die de voormalig aanvoerder van Oranje heeft moeten leveren om weer in het groenwitte shirt te kunnen spelen. Fysieke tegenslagen achtervolgden de aanvaller gedurende het seizoen, maar Robben bleef knokken waardoor hij in de laatste fase van de competitie alsnog een belangrijk aandeel had binnen de lijnen.
Ook geeft de documentaire een beeld over de twijfel die bij Robben leefde om toch nog een jaar door te gaan met voetballen. De doc ‘De route van Robben’ is vanaf heden terug te kijken op het YouTube-kanaal van FC Groningen. Robben is aanstaande zondag bij de thuiswedstrijd tegen RKC Waalwijk voor het eerst weer te gast in Euroborg. FC Groningen organiseert een eerbetoon aan Robben. Kaarten voor het duel zijn te koop via de online ticketshop.
