Daley Blind speelt momenteel met Oranje het WK in Qatar. De verdediger speelde in 2010 een half jaar op huurbasis bij FC Groningen en brak in Euroborg definitief door als Eredivisievoetballer. In de winter van 2010 stapte Blind voor het eerst Euroborg binnen, als huurling kwam de toen 19-jarige verdediger FC Groningen een half seizoen versterken. Zijn lange haren heeft de back inmiddels ingeruild voor een gemillimeterde kruin. In de ESPN DOC ‘De wilde haren van Daley Blind’ vertelt de international over zijn periode bij FC Groningen. Blind werd in 2008 uitgeroepen tot grootste talent uit de Ajax-opleiding, maar tot aan 2010 kwam de verdediger niet verder dan een handvol wedstrijden in het eerste elftal. Zijn echte Eredivisiedoorbraak beleefde Blind in Euroborg als huurling van FC Groningen. De toen 19-jarige verdediger zette voor het eerst voet in een andere kleedkamer, in een andere stad dan Amsterdam en ging voor het eerst op zichzelf wonen.
Hoewel het ‘slechts’ een half jaar betrof betitelt Blind zijn tijd in Groningen als één van de belangrijkste in zijn carrière. Een periode ook die voor hem gevoelsmatig langer is geweest. De verdediger liet in Euroborg zien een Eredivisiewaardige speler te zijn. Op een voor hem ongebruikelijke positie groeide Blind zowel binnen als buiten de lijnen in Groningen.
In de DOC ‘De wilde haren van Daley Blind’ gaat de international van Oranje onder meer terug naar zijn plekje in de kleedkamer en het appartement in het centrum van de stad, waar hij voor het eerst op zichzelf woonde. De nu doorgewinterde modelprof leerde de wetten van het profvoetbal en het leven daarbuiten in Groningen met vallen en opstaan ontdekken.
