Mouwen opstropen, initiatief nemen, vooruit denken. Het zit allemaal in het FC Groningen-DNA. Middenvelder Daniël van Kaam is opgeleid door FC Groningen en bezit al deze eigenschappen. Het zijn voorwaarden voor succes, maar garanties zijn er nooit. Zijn ontwikkeling als voetballer gaat met vallen en opstaan. Van Kaam wordt voor het contentproject de 'Aanpakkers’ een jaar gevolgd in zijn route naar de top en zijn weg naar succes. In aflevering 1 moet de middenvelder terug naar de basis.
De jeugdinternational doet er alles aan om zich terug te knokken in de basisopstelling bij FC Groningen. Om als mens te groeien verliet hij de vertrouwde basis – het ouderlijk huis in Appingedam – en woont sinds enkele maanden op zichzelf in Groningen. Topsporter zijn betekent 24 uur per dag met het vak bezig zijn. Het is een ontdekkingsreis voor ieder sporttalent.
Als Groninger is Van Kaam benaderbaar en toegankelijk. Op het veld is het een winnaar en is presteren het enige dat telt. “In sport heb je veel ego nodig, je moet op het veld het gevoel hebben dat je de beste bent. In het leven vind ik dat totaal niet belangrijk, voel ik me niet beter dan een ander.”
De eerste succesvolle stappen op het veld zijn gemaakt en ook buiten de lijnen zet Van Kaam grote stappen. De lijn naar de top gaat echter nooit recht omhoog. Zijn Groningse aanpakkersmentaliteit houdt hem met beide benen op de grond met de ogen gericht op het doel. “Als jonge speler wil je heel snel, alleen soms zijn je verwachtingen niet reëel. Als je iets goed wilt doen, moet je all-in gaan. Het mentale aspect is daarin heel belangrijk. Je bent nooit uitgeleerd.”
De eerste van zes afleveringen met Van Kaam is vanaf nu te zien op het YouTube-kanaal van de ‘Aanpakkers’.
De Aanpakkers Noord-Nederland barst van het jonge talent. In sport, in studie, in wat dan ook. Iedere Noordeling heeft wel een talent en de aanpakkersmentaliteit in deze regio kan een verschil maken. Topsporters richten hun leven dusdanig in om absolute topprestaties te kunnen leveren. Jonge sporters die anderen inspireren en motiveren het uiterste uit zichzelf en de sportfaciliteiten te halen. Want wie iets in het leven wil bereiken, moet de kansen pakken en doorzetten. Waar het voor anderen stopt, gaat een aanpakker verder.
Van Kaam wordt het komende jaar samen met vijf andere toptalenten uit het Noorden gevolgd voor het project de 'Aanpakkers’. Naast de voetballer van FC Groningen spelen aanpakkers Louise Liemberg (roeien), Kjeld Zuidema (basketbal), Britt Weerman (atletiek), Markus Held (volleybal) en Melanie Helweg (handbiking) in zes afleveringen per sporter geportretteerd.
