Thijs Dallinga stapt na dit seizoen over naar Excelsior. De 20-jarige spits had een aanbieding om langer bij FC Groningen te blijven, maar kiest voor zijn persoonlijke ontwikkeling voor een vertrek naar de Rotterdamse club uit de Keuken Kampioen Divisie.
Thijs Dallinga debuteerde op 12 december 2020 in het eerste elftal van FC Groningen. De in Groningen geboren aanvaller mocht als invaller het laatste kwartier meedoen in het met 2-0 gewonnen thuisduel met RKC Waalwijk. Daarna kwam Dallinga nog vijf keer in actie voor het vlaggenschip van de Trots van het Noorden. Zijn tot nu toe laatste optreden voor de ploeg van hoofdtrainer Danny Buijs was op 30 januari van dit jaar, in de met 1-0 verloren uitwedstrijd tegen Heracles Almelo.
Dallinga werd op 3 augustus 2000 geboren in de Stad Groningen en in 2012 door FC Emmen gescout bij VV Hoogezand. Dallinga was vervolgens zes seizoenen actief in de opleiding van de Drentse profclub. In 2018 maakte de spits de overstap naar FC Groningen, waar hij een driejarig contract tekende. Aan het eind van dit seizoen loopt deze verbintenis af. FC Groningen heeft Dallinga aangeboden zijn overeenkomst met de Trots van het Noorden te verlengen, maar de aanvaller acht het voor zijn persoonlijke ontwikkeling beter om ergens anders zicht op meer speeltijd te krijgen en kiest daarom aan het einde van dit seizoen voor een overgang naar Excelsior.
FC Groningen dankt Thijs Dallinga voor zijn inspanningen bij de club en wenst hem heel veel succes in het verdere verloop van zijn carrière.
