Woensdagmiddag 20 april was op Sportpark Corpus den Hoorn de finale van de FC Groningen Buurt Battle 2016. De afsluiting van een acht weken durend project. De FC Groningen Buurt Battle is één van de vele maatschappelijke projecten van Stichting FC Groningen in de Maatschappij. De eerste selectie van FC Groningen was aanwezig bij de finaledag.
Met de FC Groningen Buurt Battle zet FC Groningen zich samen met haar partners in voor het bevorderen van de sociale samenhang, de ouderbetrokkenheid, de gezondheid en het terugdringen van overlast. Daarnaast zijn normen en waarden en sportparticipatie belangrijke aspecten binnen het project. De editie van dit jaar vindt plaats in twaalf wijken. Finaledag De afgelopen acht weken lag de uitvoering van dit project in handen van professionals van de verschillende wijken. De deelnemers hebben trainingen ondergaan en buurtbijdrages uitgevoerd. Hiermee hebben ze individueel punten verdiend. De deelnemers met de meeste punten nemen met hun wijkteam deel aan de finaledag van vandaag. VIP-arrangement Elke wijk leverde één of twee teams, die tegen elkaar streden. Tijdens de finaledag werden de wijkteams gecoacht door de spelers van de eerste selectie van FC Groningen.
Corpus de Wijert (leeftijdscategorie 10 t/m 12 jaar) en Spoorstraat Kieldiep 1 (13 t/m 15 jaar) en Hoogkerk 2 (Rabobank Fair Play Cup) werden de winnaars van de editie 2016. Deze winnaars krijgen een VIP-arrangement aangeboden voor de competitiewedstrijd FC Groningen – Heracles Almelo, op zondag 8 mei aanstaande in Euroborg.
