Woensdag 25 januari werd voor het eerst in stadion Euroborg de coachdag talentherkenning en -ontwikkeling georganiseerd. De middag, die voortvloeide uit een samenwerking tussen de KNVB en de RVO FC Groningen/Cambuur, was een groot succes. Zo’n 150 jeugdtrainer/coaches, technisch jeugd coördinatoren en keepertrainers uit district Noord kwamen bij een om met elkaar te praten over talent op de amateurvelden.
Ab van de Velde (coördinator voetbaltechnische zaken bij de KNVB) opende de middag met de vraag: “Wat is talent?” Een vraag waar niemand in het publiek een kort en bondig antwoord op kon geven. Tijdens presentaties van hoofd jeugdopleiding Peter Jeltema en KNVB jeugdtrainer/coach Wim van Zwam werd het publiek geprikkeld om na te denken over de omgang met talent bij de amateurclubs. Aanleiding voor de coachdag in Euroborg was de verantwoordelijkheid die zowel FC Groningen als de KNVB voelt richting het jeugdvoetbal in district Noord.
Wim van Zwam was erg tevreden met de grote opkomst. “Zo’n grote opkomst geeft de betrokkenheid weer tussen de RVO en de amateurclubs. We hopen met deze middag te bereiken dat er binnen de amateurclubs nog beter wordt gekeken naar de behoeften van jeugdspelers. We staan stil bij de vraag wat deze kinderen nodig hebben om hun talent op de juiste manier te kunnen ontplooien. Jeugdtrainer/coaches worden tijdens deze middag bewust gemaakt van hun eigen werkwijze, en de invloed die die werkwijze heeft op het team en het individu.” In het FC Groningen Journaal van februari zal uitgebreid aandacht worden besteed aan deze coachdag in Euroborg.
