Illegaal vuurwerk moet uit het voetbal. Alle Eredivisie- en Eerste Divisieclubs, de KNVB, de politie, het Openbaar Ministerie, de gemeentes en het Ministerie van Justitie en Veiligheid slaan de handen ineen om illegaal vuurwerk rondom en tijdens voetbalwedstrijden en overige voetbalevenementen in stadions of trainingscomplexen in de ban te doen.
Het afsteken van vuurwerk is volgens de Nederlandse wet niet toegestaan en is bovendien gevaarlijk. Zeker in een stadion op dichtbevolkte tribunes. Zo kan knalvuurwerk gehoorschade opleveren, kunnen fakkels zware brandwonden tot gevolg hebben en is het inademen van rook schadelijk voor de luchtwegen. Daarnaast is de club aansprakelijk in het geval van letsel bij supporters en ook kan het de club forse boetes opleveren.

Alle bovenstaande partijen, vertegenwoordigd in de zogenoemde ‘Regiegroep Voetbal en Veiligheid’, hebben per direct afspraken gemaakt om harder op te treden tegen illegaal vuurwerk rondom het voetbal.
Voetbal en illegaal vuurwerk is géén vanzelfsprekende combinatie. Daarom pakken de clubs, de KNVB, de politie, het Openbaar Ministerie, de gemeentes en het Ministerie van Justitie en Veiligheid allemaal hun verantwoordelijkheid. Niet om te pesten, maar om de veiligheid van de supporters te waarborgen. Voordat er echt grote ongelukken gebeuren en het te laat is.
