FC Groningen C1 hoopt zich vrijdagavond te plaatsen bij de laatste vier teams in de Jeugdcup voor C-junioren.
De ploeg van trainer Hugo Alves Velame speelde een uitstekende poulefase waarin het op de eerste plaats eindigde. Feyenoord (1-0), Vitesse (1-0) en Brabant United (2-0) werden achtereenvolgens verslagen. Tegenstander AZ is geen onbekende voor de groenwitte formatie. Op 11 oktober speelden de teams al tegen elkaar en dat duel eindigde in een grote nederlaag voor de FC. De Alkmaarse ploeg boekte op Corpus namelijk een 7-1 overwinning!
