Beide trainer waren na afloop van FC Groningen – Heracles Almelo op de persconferentie kort en bondig over de wedstrijd. Danny Buijs was blij om met een goed gevoel het jaar 2019 te starten en Frank Wormuth van Heracles koos zijn Duitse moedertaal om zich zo goed mogelijk te kunnen uitdrukken over de ‘verdiende zege’ van de thuisclub.
Danny Buijs (FC Groningen): “We zijn natuurlijk heel blij met de 3-0 overwinning. Dat is mooi voor alles en iedereen op en rond de club. Met een goed gevoel zijn de het jaar 2019 gestart. Het eerste halfuur was van onze kant ook goed. Voor rust kwamen we één of twee keren goed weg en pakte Sergio Padt een paar belangrijke ballen.”
“In de tweede helft liepen we door de individuele kwaliteit van Thomas Bruns uit naar een terechte 3-0 overwinning. We gaan ons de komende week opmaken voor de volgende wedstrijd. PSV-uit is een pittige opgave, maar na vanavond gaan we daar met veel vertrouwen heen.”
Frank Wormuth (Heracles Almelo): “Wat ik wil vertellen over de wedstrijd, kan ik het beste in het Duits onder woorden brengen. Beter dan in het Engels. De zege van FC Groningen is absoluut verdiend. Alle gelukwensen aan hen voor deze overwinning. Het doet wel een beetje zeer om dat te zeggen, maar het is niet anders.”
“Vanaf de eerste seconde heeft Groningen er een voetbalgevecht van gemaakt. Zij gingen alle duels in om te winnen en dan speelde Groningen ook nog eens zeer goed voetbal. Wij kunnen het thuis goed brengen, maar in uitwedstrijden is ons dat nog onvoldoende gelukt.”
