Afgelopen zaterdag verloor FC Groningen in Breda de uitwedstrijd tegen NAC met 2-1. In het Boetnlaand kwamen weer handenvol oud-FC’ers in actie. Zo maakte Virgil van Dijk zijn opwachting als invaller en was Suk Hyun-Jun voor het eerst actief voor het Franse Troyes.
William Troost-Ekong kende een uitstekende dag bij de Turkse nummer 7 van de competitie, Bursaspor. Op bezoek bij de nummer 13, Yeni Malatyaspor, opende de verdediger na twaalf minuten de score. Het uitduel werd na een 4-0 voorsprong uiteindelijk met 4-2 gewonnen. Ekong, spelend met het rugnummer 93 van zijn geboortejaar, maakte tot dusver alle 450 speelminuten mee in de Suger Lig.

De terugkeer van Virgil van Dijk was afgelopen weekend groot nieuws bij Southampton. In de 87ste minuut van de uitwedstrijd tegen Crystal Palace verving hij Dusan Tadic, ook al een oud-FC’er. De 0-1 eindstand was al na zes minuten bereikt door een treffer van Steven David. Southampton staat na vijf wedstrijden met acht punten in de middenmoot, op plek negen. Crystal Palace scoorde ook zonder trainer Frank de Boer niet en is nog zonder punten de hekkensluiter in de Premier League.
Debuut
Clubhopper Suk Hyun-Jun maakte in de zesde speelronde van de Franse Ligue 1 zijn debuut. In de wedstrijd tussen de nummer 16 ES Troyes AC en 12 Montpellier HSC, maakte de Zuid-Koreaan als invaller zijn eerste opwachting voor zijn nieuwe Franse club. De 1-0 achterstand van Troyes uit de eerste helft wist Suk in zijn invalbeurt van tien minuten en vijf minuten extra tijd niet meer om te buigen.

In de Amerikaanse MLS was er weer eens succes voor Danny Hoesen bij San Jose Earthquakes. In de thuiswedstrijd tegen Houston Dynamo maakte de spits het enige en winnende doelpunt na 34 minuten spelen. Voor Hoesen was het zijn derde doelpunt in deze competitie. Ook gaf hij al drie assists. Albert Rusnak won met Real Salt Lake van Portland Timbers. De Slowaak opende na een klein kwartier spelen de score. Het was de zevende goal voor Rusnak, die ook al tien assists afleverde.
