Afgelopen maandag landde hij op Schiphol inmiddels is hij alweer op weg naar de Verenigde Staten. Robert Maaskant, de nieuwe trainer van FC Groningen gaat, de komende weken zijn werkzaamheden oppakken bij Texas Dutch Lions. Een fotoverslag van de woensdag in Groningen.
Op maandag had Maaskant op Schiphol een bespreking met algemeen directeur Hans Nijland en technisch manager Henk Veldmate. Dinsdag sprak Maaskant met assistent-coaches Erwin van de Looi en Dick Lukkien. Dinsdagavond werden vervolgens onderhandelingen gevoerd over het contract van Maaskant.
Woensdagochtend rond elf uur arriveerde Maaskant in Euroborg en rond één uur werd hij gepresenteerd aan de media, sponsors en relaties van FC Groningen. Twee uur later maakte hij zijn opwachting bij de Hattrick’s Club Golfdag op de Drentsche Golf & Country Club in Zeijerveen. Eerder die ochtend had hij ook nog telefonisch contact met keeperstrainer Ruud Hesp gehad.
Vanmorgen (donderdag – red.) vloog Maaskant terug naar Amerika, waar zijn team vanavond en zaterdag alweer wedstrijden afwerken. Op zondag 24 juni om 14.30 uur staat Maaskant voor het eerst voor de spelersgroep van FC Groningen. De komende weken rond de nieuwe FC-trainer zijn werkzaamheden in Texas af.
