FC Groningen speelt vrijdagavond in Harkstede de vierde oefenwedstrijd van de voorbereiding op het seizoen 2009/2010. Ook voor provinciegenoot BV Veendam is het de vierde krachtmeting. De ploeg van trainer Joop Gall scoorde al vijftig keer.
Dat deed de ploeg in drie duels tegen amateurclubs. Tegen een regioteam in Wagenborgen werd met 8-0 gewonnen. Meeden werd vervolgens met 23-0 verslagen en Borgercompagnie afgelopen dinsdag met 19-0. Nieuwelingen aan de zijde van Veendam zijn oud-Groninger en middenvelder Paul Matthijs, Mitch Apau (verdediger), Anco Jansen (middenvelder, ex-Jong FC), Lars Lambooij (middenvelder), René Wessels (middenvelder), Michael De Leeuw (middenvelder), Tjeerd Korf (aanvaller), Joël Bijlow (aanvaller) en doelman Peter van der Vlag.
Ziekenboeg dunt uit Aan de kant van FC Groningen zal Oluwafemi Ajilore zijn eerste minuten gaan maken na zijn terugkeer uit Nigeria. Petter Andersson (knie), Andreas Granqvist (enkel) en Pepijn Kluin (knie) zijn nog niet inzetbaar tegen BV Veendam. Ook middenvelder Goran Lovre is er niet bij. Onderzoek heeft uitgewezen dat de schade naar omstandigheden meevalt.
Derby In de afgelopen jaren heeft FC Groningen in de Groninger derby traditioneel moeite met Veendam als tegenstander in de aanloop naar de competitie. Vrijdagavond begint de wedstrijd om 19.00 uur bij VV Harkstede. De kassa’s openen om 17.00 uur.
