Betaald voetbalclubs, KNVB en Eredivisie CV hebben afgesproken sneller en kordater op te treden tegen scheldkoren in het voetbal. Dat is het resultaat van de bijeenkomst die 18 februari, op initiatief van clubs, plaatsvond. De reden is dat iedereen baalt van de incidenten in het voetbal van de afgelopen periode, en meer willen doen om deze misdragingen tegen te gaan. Vanaf aankomend weekeinde vragen clubs direct bij kwetsende en discriminerende scheldkoren de supporters met dit gedrag te stoppen. Indien de scheldkoren dan alsnog doorgaan, wordt de wedstrijd stilgelegd.
Alle partijen roepen ook op tot een gezamenlijke verantwoordelijkheid om scheldkoren aan te pakken, samen met alle supporters. Clubs gaan hierover verder in gesprek met de supportersverenigingen om normen en waarden in het stadion gezamenlijk vast te leggen en uit te spreken. Dit past volledig in de gezamenlijke ambitie stadions toegankelijker, gastvrijer en veiliger te maken. Spreekkoren vs scheldkoren Er is een duidelijk onderscheid tussen spreekkoren en scheldkoren. Spreekkoren horen bij het voetbal en richten zich op het aanmoedigen van het eigen voetbalteam of het op ludieke wijze uiten van de gezonde rivaliteit tussen clubs. Met scheldkoren worden het scanderen van kwetsende, beledigende en/of racistische teksten bedoeld en onderscheiden daarmee zich in negatieve zin van spreekkoren. Scheldkoren horen niet thuis in het voetbal en hiertegen wordt nu dus ook sneller en kordater opgetreden. Verantwoordelijkheid Gisteren is wederom vastgesteld dat de verantwoordelijkheid om een wedstrijd tijdelijk of definitief stil te leggen bij de thuisspelende club ligt. Als de wedstrijd wordt stilgelegd, spreken de club, lokale autoriteiten en de arbitrage over de maatregelen die genomen moeten worden en wat er moet gebeuren bij herhaling van de scheldkoren. De scheidsrechter kan een wedstrijd enkel stilleggen als spelers en/of arbitrage niet meer in staat zijn te functioneren. Mocht er na een hervatting van de wedstrijd wederom sprake zijn van het scanderen van scheldkoren, dan kan de wedstrijd definitief worden gestaakt.
