Hilal Ben Moussa is een vaste waarde bij Jong FC Groningen en stroomde bij de B1-junioren in de jeugdopleiding van FC Groningen in. Hij kwam toen over van het Utrechtse Elinkwijk. Een groot deel van zijn voetbalopleiding genoot de middenvelder bij Ajax in Amsterdam.
Ben Moussa noemt zijn contract in Euroborg ‘een mooi beloning’, waarbij hij refereert aan zijn volledige herstel na een zware knieblessure. “Op 7 augustus 2010 – die datum vergeet ik niet meer – liep ik tijdens een toernooi met de Beloften in Pijnacker een kruisbandblessure op. Elf maanden later, in juli 2011, kon ik mijn rentree maken. Het is daarom nu extra mooi, dat ik dit contract heb weten te verdienen. Ik ben er heel blij mee.” Debuut Ben Moussa maakte inmiddels vier keer zijn opwachting bij de eerste selectie. “Ik heb twee invalbeurten achter mijn naam staan. Mijn debuut in de Eredivisie maakte ik in de uitwedstrijd tegen AZ en ook uit bij Roda JC mocht ik invallen. Het is nu uitkijken naar mijn debuut in Euroborg. Mijn intentie was direct om bij FC Groningen te blijven. Ik wil hier graag uitgroeien tot een basisspeler. In het eerste elftal, wel te verstaan…”, eindigt hij zijn reactie met een knipoog.
