Jong FC Groningen heeft maandagavond op eigen veld met 1-0 verloren van Jong AZ. Pelle maakte in de tweede helft de winnende treffer.
Bij beide teams stond een keur aan Eredivisie-ervaring binnen de lijnen. Zo startte FC Groningen met liefst acht spelers uit de eerste selectie en het maximale aantal van vijf dispensatiespelers (waaronder de doelman).
Bij AZ dacht men zes dispensatiespelers op te mogen stellen. Voorafgaand aan het duel werd bij het invullen van het digitale wedstrijdformulier echter duidelijk dat dit er twee teveel waren. Zo waren Ari en Poulsen twee bijzondere toeschouwers van een vermakelijk duel.
In de eerste helft had Groningen een licht overwicht en in de beginfase al de betere kansen. Na de pauze kwam AZ sterker uit de hoek en drukten zijn een veldoverwicht uit in de winnende treffer van Pelle.
