Jong FC Groningen heeft maandagavond in Tilburg met 2-0 verloren van Jong Willem II. Beide treffers vielen in het laatste kwartier. Jeroen Veldmate en Tim Matavz maakten hun rentree, terwijl Norair Mamedov (17) debuteerde in de Beloften.
Bij FC Groningen maakte Jeroen Veldmate na enkele maanden zijn rentree na een bovenbeenblessure. Hij speelde ruim een uur. Ook de rentree van Tim Matavz was opmerkelijk. Hij verving Dennis Krohne in de rust. Tien minuten voor het einde van het duel, bij een 1-0 achterstand, maakte spits Norair Mamedov van FC Groningen A1 zijn debuut in het elftal.
Ondanks het verlies blijft de ploeg van trainer Erwin van de Looi boven de streep staan, op de twaalfde plaats. Ook FC Utrecht, de nummer 13 van de ranglijst, verloor. Komende week komt Jong PSV op bezoek op Corpus den Hoorn.
De stand onderin de ranglijst is na twintig van de 26 speelronde nu als volgt: 9. Sparta en De Graafschap 20-27, 11. sc Heerenveen 20-24, 12. FC Groningen 20-22, 13. FC Utrecht 20-20, 14. RKC Waalwijk 20-9.
