Jong FC Groningen speelt vanmiddag, donderdag 22 augustus, op Corpus den Hoorn een oefenwedstrijd tegen Al Kharaitiyat uit Qatar. Het duel begint om 15.00 uur en de toegang is gratis.
De ploeg van trainer Paul Raveneau speelt door de nieuwe wijziging van de competitie-opzet nog maar twintig officiële wedstrijden in het seizoen en speelt geregeld oefenduels in de weken dat er geen competitieverplichtingen zijn. Zo wordt bijvoorbeeld op 2 en 5 september aanstaande geoefend tegen FC Utrecht en SC Heerenveen. Qatar Vanmiddag om 15.00 uur wordt op Corpus den Hoorn gespeeld tegen een exotische tegenstander: Al Kharaitiyat uit de hoogste divisie van Qatar. De club werd opgericht in 1996 en speelt sinds 2008 in de hoogste divisie van Qatar. De afgelopen vijf seizoenen eindigde de ploeg telkens tussen de zesde en tiende plek op de vaderlandse ranglijst. In 2022 wordt in Qatar het WK voetbal gehouden.
Voor Jong FC Groningen is de competitie ruim twee weken terug gestart met een nipte 1-0 zege op Jong Fortuna Sittard. Na de oefenwedstrijd van donderdagmiddag wordt de tweede competitiewedstrijd aanstaande maandag gespeeld. Het betreft een uitwedstrijd tegen Jong VVV/Helmond Sport.
