Jong FC Groningen speelt vanavond op Sportpark Corpus den Hoorn de thuiswedstrijd tegen Jong AZ. De ploeg van trainer Dick Lukkien kan bij winst de kwartfinale bereiken. Het duel begint om 18.30 uur en de toegang is gratis.
De opzet van het bekertoernooi is met ingang van dit seizoen gewijzigd. De groepsfase is na dertien edities geschrapt en zo is het bekertoernooi voor Beloften nu net als dat voor eerste elftallen een volledig knock-outtoernooi.
In de afgelopen dertien seizoenen bereikte het toenmalige tweede elftal tweemaal de halve finales en een keer de achtste finales van de Amstel Malt Cup. Sinds de Beloften (onder-23) hun intrede deden in de competitie werd één keer de kwartfinale en één de achtste finale behaald. In de overige acht edities was de (eerste) groepsfase het eindstadium.
